A note to our visitors... St. Mary's Parish is comprised of about 700 households in and around the farming community of Remsen, which is in Northwest Iowa and the Diocese of Sioux City. We consider ourselves to be hospitable people with a strong sacramental life. Although we have many aged parishioners, we also show promise with a vigorous younger population; for instance, the Kindergarten class of 2008-09 set a new record with 22 students, the most since the program began in 1996! It is a great challenge of stewardship to keep our Catholic school system flourishing and we are very proud of our accomplishments in this realm. We are one of only two Catholic school systems in the diocese (along with Storm Lake St. Mary's) to operate a K-12 school with the support only one primary community and parish. We are also stewards of one of the most beautiful and historically important churches in the Midwest, which you will simply must experience! Visitors often exclaim how very peaceful and prayerful the atmosphere is in our elegant church. Our pastor, Fr. Bill McCarthy was a farmer before becoming a priest and we are blessed that he is our leader. We have many, many dedicated volunteers, employees, teachers, staff, and trustees who take care of the million and one responsibilities in our parish. Won't you join us? Or pay us a visit? You'd be most welcome. Thanks for visiting our website and come back soon! St. Mary's Grade School bell tower in foreground, Church steeple in background
