Welcome to St. Mary’s Parish...your window to the universal Church… |
v Our family – over one billion people – is made up of every race and has spanned the centuries and the globe.* v We are young and old, rich and poor, men and women, sinners and saints. v We are the largest charitable organization on the planet, bringing relief and comfort to those in need. v We educate more children than any other scholarly or religious institution. v We defend the dignity of all human life and uphold marriage and family. v Guided by the Holy Spirit, we compiled the Bible. v We are transformed by Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, which have consistently guided us for 2000 years. v We share in the Sacraments and fullness of the Christian faith. v For centuries we have prayed for you and our world, every hour of every day, whenever we celebrate the Mass. v Jesus himself laid the foundation for our faith when he said to Peter, the first Pope, “You are Rock, and upon this Rock I will build my church.” v Ours is one universal – Catholic – family, united in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.* v Welcome! We hope this website will serve as your "local window" to this varied and wonderful family, the universal Church! *Blue type is © Copyright 2008, Catholics Come Home, Inc. On Tuesday, October 7, which happened to be the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, I got to chatting with a couple from our St. Mary's Parish. We somehow got on the subject of the rosary and they told me the most amazing tidbit; they have been saying a rosary a day since the day they were married...nearly 51 years ago! Folks, that is over 18,500 rosaries! The couple, who wished to remain anonymous, said that they agreed while driving down the road to their honeymoon that they would do their best to say one rosary a day, and together if at all possible. "We have not always been able to say it together," said the wife, "but by far most of the time we have." She added, "We have said the rosary in just about every imaginable circumstance." They said that they are proud to say that a daughter has taken up the same practice. The husband said, "It is great to know that this has rubbed off on someone. We have loved it so much." From this devotion they have collected some beautiful and rare rosaries and many great memories. Both are very devoted, of course, to our Blessed Mother. For me, it was the greatest gift I could have received on this feast day, to discover this great story of prayer, dedication, and love. |

Mrs. Mary Arens, religion teacher and Spiritual Life Director at Remsen St. Mary’s, was among the four teachers of the Diocese of Sioux City to receive an Excellence in Education Award at the 2008 Bishop’s Dinner for Catholic Education on October 5 at the Sioux City Convention Center. She gave a brief address on her thankfulness for her job, the school, her family, and dedicated and devoted students and faculty/staff. She also keyed in on service trips and the students' success in praying and acting to end abortion and promote a culture of life. Remsen St. Mary's filled over 9 tables at the event, which raises money for Catholic education. The SM people gave Mrs. Arens a "standing O" as she received her award from Bishop Nickless. Her husband Keith, daughter Sarah, son Mitchell, and other family members were present. Our congratulations go out to Mrs. Arens, and our thanks for all she does for our parish, school, and community. Well deserved! |
